What is the best free private email?

Proton Mail is the best free private email. Messages are end-to-end encrypted when both sides use Proton, it does not scan mail for ads, and it is based in Switzerland. Tuta is a similar encrypted service from Germany. Gmail and Outlook are reliable but tied to large ad companies.
